The Number 23

I’ve always wanted to see Jim Carey act in a non-comedy movie People always knew Jim by his marvelous comedies, which made me laugh so many times. But not everybody thought Jim was a laugh making machine. After all, what is the use of an actor if he only does comedies? As far as I am concerned, Stallone and schwarzenegger have always made part in action movies. That’s not bad. I’ve always loved movies with them since I was a kid. Now, Jim impressed me with “The Truman show”, which made quite a feel people get disappointed. It was NOT a comedy movie, it was a drama and it went pretty fine. So, I started to really enjoy his movies concerning the drama genre, but I wasn’t expecting this.
It’s been quite a while since the first time I watched this movie. “The Number 23″. A psychological paranoia inducing thriller which talks about a man who, after reading a book from an anonymous writer, stars to see the number 23 everywhere. As said in the Wikipedia website: the 23 enigma refers to the belief that most incidents and events are directly connected to the number 23.
I didn’t quite buy it at first, but if you take a close look at it, the facts are unrefusable. If you believe it or not, it doesn’t really matter. It could be a hell of a coincidence, or if you prefer, fate. Jim Carey’s character gets crazy as he reads each chapter till a moment where he believes the number 23 is everywhere and he can’t escape it. It’s a movie that it’s worth a try. I’ll close this post by giving some examples of the 23 enigma.
A little nickel’s worth of advice: Try not getting nuts.

Seventh Heaven?

Since I was a kid, a bunch of Superman fans and I, have always wanted to see the day Clark Kent would reveal his secret to Lois lane, that is, telling her he is, in fact, Superman. Of course, every single girl I know would love to spend their entire lives beside the Man of Steel. But would it be exactly the way it has always been with the comic books? Would it be a perfect eternal life? Would all girls I know not mind the fact that Superman is, or if you prefer, are two people? To answer these questions I propose some analysis. Here we go.
Considering that every girl is in Lois Lane’s shoes, they would be in love with both men. Superman and Clark Ken, at least in their points of view. It wouldn’t quite happen fast, as in the way “falling in love” was related to Superman. We have to face some facts. Clark Kent is simply an ordinary man. He has, at least disguised, the same physical appearance of Superman. The embodiment of a person in Clark Kent is just ordinary, therefore people would rarely see him as a potential catch due to the fact that he’s basically in the same environment Superman is. Imagine a parking lot. You have a bunch of average cars and you have a Ferrari. People would rarely remember the name of the cars around, but surely they would remember the Ferrari. Clark would loose in a dispute with superman if he wanted someone to quickly fall in love with him.
Now, on the other hand, we have Superman. The man on steel. A handsome and powerful alien from another planet. He is 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 225 pounds. His hair is jet black, with a natural curl in front, and he has blue eyes. He is always drawn with a rugged bodybuilder’s physique and a square “hero’s jaw” that gives him a noble physique. His costume is essentially a pair of bright blue long johns, red trunks and boots, a red cape and a yellow belt. I’m not mentioning his powers and everything he can do, but in our world, his physical appearance does the job. So, why can’t Clark Kent get the same impression? Well, Superman is an Icon. He’s the perfect embodiment of peace and justice, not to mention that he is the unique idea of a true hero and all these elements combined can truly make anyone fall in love with Superman. Heck, even I am in love with superman.
So, was it love what Lois lane saw in superman the first time she laid eyes on him? Is it love that makes us fall in love with Megan Fox when she smiles? George Clooney’s crybaby look? I don’t think so. It’s the symbol. The icon of a person. And Superman is no different. Lois Lane was amazed, yes. She was infatuated. And slowly right beside her there was a man. A simple and true man, who can get hurt, who can feel sick, who can enjoy the simple pleasures of life and be cautious about it, at least in Lois Lane’s point of view. A simple man who was there for her every single day of their lives. With time, Lois fell in love with Clark and Superman became a fraternal icon.
But Lois Lane doesn’t know that. Anytime superman wanted, she’d fly with him. Anywhere he took her, she’d be amazed. I guess Superman got pretty confused and terrified by the thought of telling Lois his true identity. I mean, it must be pretty weird to find out that the two people you love the most are the same person. Take the idea of a girlfriend who cheats on her boyfriend with himself. Weird, right? And actually, it got weird. When Clark Kent decided to tell Lois he was Superman things flew off the handle. There are several comic books, episodes of tv series and movies showing that. Lois Lane disappointed with the fact that Superman is Clark kent. She doesn’t actually know exactly how to react due to 3 reasons.
1 – Lois lane can’t bare the fact that she’ll have to share Superman with the world.
2 – Loins Lane doesn’t know how to react, since Superman and Clark Kent are the same person.
3 – Lois Lane can’t bare the fact that Clark Kent lied about being Superman, since Superman always tells the truth. (this one is the least common reason)
It’s completely understandable that Lois freaked out with this revelation. Being two people at the same time reminds me of double personalities, which in fact, really happened. For so many years you have to act and behave as if you were two people. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Maybe that’s what happened. Superman is the man of steel and since it’s a love story, Lois Lane’s issues disappeared with time. She is married to Superman and they both live together in Metropolis. But in reality, I mean, in the real world, a Lois lane who could bare that is absolutely welcome.

Luna

She ran slightly on the dry leaves in a calm and solemn park. It titillated its lights in the reflex of the lukewarm water of a lake. She felt the wind. Croakings and buzzings patrolling as night guard. She wanted the moon. Her sublime translucency touched the snow white skin of hers and, lying on the fresh gram of dew, she hummed epic songs of old stations and hearts. That, yes, was a delight, an action of simple love. The moon that licked the woman’s curves like an immense candle at night insisted on swallowing clarities in rafts. Short waves, long waves. A sound that won the syncopated rhythm of the voice that sounded a brilliant simplicity on the air. It was the boy. The villager. The marginal boy, noble in his heart intentions. He became jealous with the scene and fought a battle in the intimate of his disordered and recently disrupted mind. He smiled and lied down beside her.  Now the moon licked the two of them. It was a “ménage a trois.”
